Louisville, KY - It's around 3:30 in the morning on August 4th and officers are conducting a routine traffic stop. What they don't know and are about to discover is that 22-year-old Shawn Bloemer is tied up and trapped in the trunk of that car.
"They stood me up, put a towel around my head, tied my wrists with a tee shirt and put me in the truck of my car. Right before they closed the trunk they said this isn't personal, we need your car."
Police say three suspects: Trent Blye, Joseph Davis and Brittany Elder, kidnapped the Circle K clerk at the end of his shift in Jeffersontown.
They're accused of roughing Bloemer up and then stuffing him into the trunk of his own car before driving around for three hours and making a drug buy.
As they were exiting the vehicle, one or two of them banged on the trunk, that's when I heard the white female laughing.
Then this seemingly routine traffic stop. By this time Bloemer says he had passed out but awoke to blue and red flashing lights which he glimpsed through a crack in a taillight.
"I heard a voice and I could tell from his inflection or what have you that he was an officer. He came back and asked about insurance and that's when I started kicking and punching on the hood, yelling."
The commotion in the trunk got the cop's attention.
Officers call for backup and individually pull all three suspects from the car. Then with weapons drawn officers cautiously pop the trunk and find the kidnapped clerk inside.
"The trunk was popped, I exposed my hands like the officers asked me to do, they opened up the hood and there was probably 8 or 10 cop cars there."
Weeks later Bloemer got to meet the men who may have saved his life as they were honored for their work.
