Largo, FL - Largo Police have identified the child killed on Sunday afternoon while riding his skateboard in Parkview Estates as 8-year-old Elijah Ryan Crayton.
A makeshift memorial of teddy bears and a candle mark the spot where investigators say the child was hit by a car as he was sitting on his skateboard, riding down his driveway.
The driver, Sarah Doyle, 36, was not able to stop in time.
The child was airlifted to the hospital where he later died.
Police tell 10 News they do not believe speed was a factor. At this point, it appears to be a tragic accident.
"You don't know what to tell your kids. There was a couple of people walking here with their kids and they were like, what happened. Dads trying to tell them what's going on...like I said, it's a horrendous thing," said Roseann Catalano, who lives next door to where the deadly accident happened.
Pinellas County Schools tell 10 News Crayton was a third grader at Ridge Crest Elementary School. Grief counselors are working with students and staff today.
There are a lot of tears in the Parkview Estates neighborhood where many families with children call home.
Mickey Krause was putting up her Christmas lights at the time.
"My neighbor's nephew had gone over to try and help and he said he had a strong heart beat at that point, so we thought he was going to make it," said Krause, with tears in her eyes.
She brought a teddy bear to the crash location.
"It makes you stop and think. You never know, just cherish every moment," she said.
Largo Police say the crash is still under investigation.
