CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A recently-married couple was arrested early Monday after a drunken fight over a misplaced remote control at a South Carolina hotel, a report states.

According to a Charleston Police Department incident report, officers responded to the lobby of the Charleston Place Hotel on Market Street around 2 a.m. after receiving reports of domestic violence.

Upon arrival, a security guard told police tenants had made complaints about an argument going on in one of the room. The guard directed officers to 37-year-old Kara Harris Mahon, who was very upset and trembling, the report states.

Mahon told police she and her intoxicated husband, 35-year-old Albert McAlister, were lying in bed watching television when he complained about not being able to find the remote control.

Mahon said she found the remote and threw it at him, hitting him with it, and McAlister retaliated by punching her on the forehead with a closed fist.

McAlister's wife told police she then bit him on the back of his left arm.

Police then questioned McAlister, who claimed "nothing happened." Police said McAlister appeared "grossly intoxicated" and had slurred speech, as well as a large bite mark on his arm.

McAlister told officers the mark "was just a scratch from earlier." Police told McAlister to get dressed, and then arrested him.

Both McAlister and Mahon, who have been married since June, were charged with criminal domestic violence.

They were taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.
