Sarasota, Florida -- A pair of 11th graders at Pineview School won a local Public Service Announcement competition put on by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
There were 10 entries overall but it was Wesley Backer and Max Klauber's 30-second spot that won the top prize.
"Prescription and over-the-counter drugs are among the most commonly abused drugs by teens, so we wanted to see how students would reach out to peers with this lifesaving message," said Sheriff Tom Knight. "As the entries showed, we have some real talent in this community, so we hope to expand the competition next year."
Their PSA will air on ABC7 beginning today, Dec. 19 through the end of the year and will also be posted on the station's website www.mysuncoast.com. The sheriff's office says the airtime was paid for by Regional Strike Force funding from the FDLE.
The PSA will also air on The Education Channel and can be seen on the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office YouTube channel www.youtube.com/SarasotaSheriff.
