CLEARWATER, Florida -- Hundreds of friends and strangers played flag football on Saturday at Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex to honor a 19-year-old who drowned nearly a year ago.

Out of Logan Kushner's death has come a foundation called "I'm Logan It," a slogan his mother said was made up by his friends long before he passed away. The foundation strives to honor Kushner's memory while also raising money for causes close to his heart.

This past January, Kushner was home for the holidays from Stetson University. He went to Kapok Park in Clearwater with a friend, who had apparently brought along synthetic marijuana, also commonly known as K2, Spice, or Jazz. Hours later, Kushner was found unresponsive in the water.

An autopsy concluded that he likely fell and drowned, but that synthetic marijuana probably played a role in his death. Family and friends say he was a good student who volunteered his time with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and a talented athlete who loved to play football.

Along with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, money raised from the flag football fundraiser will help create college scholarships. It will also benefit the Tourette Syndrome Association, since Kushner's mother said he lived with moderate Tourette Syndrome.
