(USA TODAY) -- It didn't take Ray Lewis very long to line up his next gig.

According to a Sports Illustrated report, the Baltimore Ravens legend is close to signing a multiple-year deal with ESPN, where he would utilize his well-documented loquaciousness in a significant role on the network's "Monday Night Countdown" and other platforms.

Via SI.com:

"One of Lewis' main requirements, according to sources, was flexibility in his schedule so he could attend the games of his son, Ray Lewis III, who will be a freshman running back/defensive back next season at his father's alma mater, the University of Miami. Such scheduling made Lewis an unlikely fit for a full-time role on the Sunday morning shows aired by CBS or Fox where he'd be required to be part of pre-show meetings on either Saturday or early Sunday."

The report also notes that no formal announcement is expected to be made until the Ravens season, which continues with Sunday's wild-card game vs. Indianapolis, is complete.

Lewis seems like he would be a natural for the job, but it will be interesting to see how he fits onto a crowded desk that already includes Chris Berman, Tom Jackson, Mike Ditka, Keyshawn Johnson and Cris Carter.
