Detectives say around 9:35 p.m., the two men entered the Munchies in the 600 block of Union Street and one of them ordered a clerk to lay face down on the ground at the entrance so they could act as a lookout while the other suspect took another clerk behind the counter and demanded money and cigarettes.
After the clerk handed over the items, the man hit him over the head with the gun and then both men fled the store. As they left, police say they pointed a gun at a customer who had just arrived at the store.
The clerk who was hit in the head sustained a small cut and treated at the store by Dunedin Fire Rescue. Responding deputies set up a perimeter around the area and a K-9 unit was unable to track them.
The sheriff's office says Clearwater Police are also conducting an investigation into a robbery at Dodge's Store in the 1100 block of NE Cleveland Street on Jan. 19 where they believe the suspects may be the same ones involved in this latest robbery.
The two men are described below:
Suspect 1: The one who went behind counter, is described as a black male. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with a "Hollister" logo on the front, dark colored baggie pants, and his nose and mouth was covered with a bandanna. He was carrying a red backpack.
The one who remained at store entrance, is also described as a black male. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, long black shorts with vertical white stripes on the side, and black and white basketball sneakers. He was also wearing a cover over his nose and mouth.
Detectives are someone will recognize the voice of one of the suspects heard in the surveillance video. Anyone with information that might assist detectives in identifying the suspects is asked to contact Detective Jeff Capra of the Robbery/Homicide Unit at (727) 582-6200; or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1800-873-TIPS.
