NEW PORT RICHEY, Florida - Division of Forestry officials are warning drivers in Pasco County that they could be experiencing smoky conditions during the Wednesday morning commute.
FDOT has already posted at least two signs along State Road 52 to caution drivers. It's expected the smoke could be the worst at 5:00 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. in the morning.
It's all because a 220-acre brush fire burning near the Starkey Well Field in the Moon Lake Estates area. The fire, which officials believe someone started Monday, burned 50 acres then.
On Tuesday, crews built fire lines and set a back burn to help keep flames away from homes. Some small flames were still burning in wooded areas behind houses. In some cases, forestry officials say the burn lines are about 60 feet away from some homes along Evergreen Street.
Crews said they will continue to monitor the fire.
