St. Petersburg, Florida-- Police say a woman was injured while cooking in her friend's kitchen Monday evening after at least one round of .45 caliber ammunition exploded from within the oven.
According to reports, Aalaya Walker was visiting her friend, Javarski "JJ" Sandy, around 5 p.m. when she got hungry and decided to cook waffles in the oven.
Walker told officials she was a few minutes into the pre-heating process when she heard an explosion, and was struck with fragments of the shell casing.
The explosion resulted in superficial shrapnel wounds to Walker's chest, thighs and knees, and she reportedly rode the bus to a nearby hospital for treatment.
After officials spoke with Walker at the hospital, reports say they paid a visit to Sandy's home off the 200 block of 24th St. N to investigate further.
Sandy allowed officials to inspect his Glock, and he explained that he kept the gun in a drawer, but that he stored his high capacity magazine with four rounds in it, in the oven.
Sandy, who has no prior record, faced no charges for the incident. Reports say the gun was not stolen and that Sandy had a concealed weapons permit.
