St. Petersburg, Florida -- UPDATE: Detectives have released the identity of the woman whose body was found on Gandy Beach early Thursday morning.
In their latest report, Pinellas deputies named the woman as 51-year-old Pamela Sue Simon of St. Petersburg, and clarified that she was not homeless, as they originally believed.
A passerby spotted Simon's body in an inlet next to mangroves on the beach, not far from Banana Boat Bayside.
A medical examiner performed an autopsy on Simon's body Thursday. The official cause of death has not yet been released, but investigators on the case still believe Simon's death was not suspicious.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of woman whose body was found on Gandy Beach Thursday morning.
Detectives say the woman's body was found at the shoreline just east of the Banana Boat Bayside around 7:10 a.m. The woman is believed to be homeless and was living in the area for some time.
Detectives say it doesn't appear her death was the result of foul play.
Her identity has not been released at this time as detectives try to locate a family member.
