Lynchburg, VA (Sports Network) - JR Coronado recorded a double-double to lead
the Liberty Flames over the Austin Peay Governors, 79-73, in overtime at the
Vines Center in BracketBusters action.
Coronado had just 10 points but pulled down 18 rebounds for the Flames
(10-19), who broke out of a two-game slump. Tavares Speaks led the team in
scoring with 18 points while Davon Marshall followed closely behind with 16.
John Caleb Sanders added 14 points, nine rebounds, and six assists while
Tomasz Gielo had 12 points.
Austin Peay (7-22) was led by Anthony Campbell who scored 21 points with seven
rebounds while knocking down a trio of 3-pointers. Travis Betran recorded 18
points and made four 3-pointers but went just 7-of-21 from the field. Will
Triggs added 12 points and seven rebounds as the Governors suffered their
second consecutive loss.
After shooting 50.0 percent from the field and hitting six 3-pointers in the
first half, Austin Peay carried a 39-31 lead into halftime.
In the second half the Flames held the Governors to 29.6 percent shooting from
the field and outscored them 34-26. A 3-pointer by Betran with 26 seconds left
tied the game for Liberty and after Marshall missed a potential game winner
with two seconds left for APSU, the game was sent to overtime.
The Flames went a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line in overtime while
the Governors went 1-of-6 from the line and 3-of-10 from the field. Liberty
outscored APSU 14-8 and took the win, 79-73.
Liberty shot 48.4 percent from the floor for the game and APSU shot under 40.0
percent and while the Governors hit 10 3-pointers, they took 30 shots from
beyond the arc.
