St. Petersburg, Florida -- A lawmaker is calling for a statewide database of sinkholes.
State Representative Mike Fasano of New Port Richey says it's shocking that Florida doesn't already have a complete listing.
"It's important that we can follow these sinkholes, that we follow the (insurance) claims so we know whether there was a true sinkhole there or not and then whether that sinkhole was fixed or not," Fasano said.
SINKHOLE DATABASE: Look up your county
The Republican says one thing that would help is if the state required a permit for any sinkhole testing. Currently each county has its own rules regarding the permitting of sinkhole testing.
Fasano notes while some agencies do collect some information on sinkholes in Florida, there is no complete database.
