A bottle of Ommegang's new 'Game of Thrones' beer sits in my dining room. (It's empty, of course!)
(USA TODAY) -- If you were to bottle HBO's Game of Thrones, what would it taste like?
I'd guess it would be something dark and intense. However, the folks at Brewery Ommegang disagreed.
This month Ommegang launches the first installment of its limited-edition Game of Thrones beers, timed to coincide with the HBO series' return. Dubbed "Iron Throne Blonde Ale," the first beer contains "a robust amount of pils, honey malt, aroma malts and red wheat," with a "full and fluffy" head.
was fortunate to sample the beer last weekend and found it pleasantly
surprising. Iron Throne Ale is light and a little fruity - there's a GoT
joke in there somewhere - and pairs well with cheese and crackers. (I'm
not a pro in this arena, but if I had to compare it to another beer, it
might be something like Chimay Triple.)
Look for more Thrones
beer varieties this year from the Cooperstown, N.Y., brewery. They'll
be available in 750-milliliter bottles and one-sixth barrels.
Iron Throne Ale goes on sale March 31, the same day the show's new season premieres.
