KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WZZM) - To paraphrase Mark Twain, the rumored death of this deer were greatly exaggerated.
A Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer found that out early Tuesday morning in the 3700 block of East Cork Street.
Officer David Miller approached a suspicious vehicle in the parking
lot behind the hotel at about 2 a.m. Tuesday. A Kalamazoo area man was
sitting in the vehicle and the officer started talking with him.
During
the discussion, Miller's attention was drawn to the trunk and the man
hit the trunk release and told the officer that he had hit a deer and
that the officer would want to check it out.
The man said that the deer was dead and he was going to use the meat to feed his family.
Officer Miller opened the trunk cautiously, but the deer -- which was
not dead -- sprung from the trunk and took off into the woods.
The deer has not been seen since.
