Tampa, Florida -- Chad Wolfe's death made national headlines after his body was found in an elevator shaft at Tampa International Airport.
Although early reports indicate he died after prying open the elevator doors and falling when the elevator malfunctioned, many questions remain unanswered.
But on Thursday, 10 News obtained surveillance video from inside the airport that captures Wolfe's bizarre behavior just minutes before his death.
Wolfe is seen drinking what appears to be a small bottle of airplane liquor as his girlfriend Jessica Price is walking in front of him.
Then, we see the couple walking -- but notably not together -- as Price is seen walking in front of him again. Then in one of the more bizarre moments, we see Wolfe climbing onto a tree inside the airport lobby. You can see it in the upper left hand portion of the screen.
Finally, in the last clip we see the couple walking toward the elevators, Price quickly moves ahead of Wolfe and gets on the far left elevator, leaving Wolfe to try and catch up. Then, Wolfe boards another elevator on the far right.
This is what appears to be the last time the couple sees each other.
Tampa International Airport issued a statement:
"Schindler conducts routine preventative and corrective maintenance on all of our elevators throughout the year on a daily, weekly, monthly and semi-annual basis.
According to Schindler, who maintains our elevators, the locking device on the doors of elevator 21 (Mr. Wolfe was found at the bottom of that shaft) at the seventh floor of the parking garage (where Mr. Wolfe was last seen alive) were functioning when the device was last inspected in January.
On Friday, the day of the accident, we asked Schindler to inspect all of the locking devices and they reported that they were functioning properly.
The state inspected all the locking devices this week. You have those reports.
All of the airport's elevators also receive a comprehensive inspection by a third party each year, as directed by state law. The last inspection was conducted by Suncoast Elevator Inspections in April 2012, and all elevators received certificates of operation. In an abundance of caution, we have started the annual, state-required inspection of our elevators a few weeks early. That is being conducted by a company called Vertical Assessments."
