HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) - A police chase and wrong-way crash ended with four people dead on I-95 early Wednesday in South Broward County.
The crash happened around 1 a.m. on I-95 south of Hallandale Beach Boulevard.
According to preliminary information from the Florida Highway Patrol, Opa-locka police were pursuing a Suburban SUV when the driver got onto I-95 at Ives Dairy Road, traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.
The wrong-way SUV then crashed into a minivan at Hallandale Beach, killing four people inside, according to a preliminary report from FHP. The suspect was taken to the hospital with two broken legs.
Opa=Locka Police officials told CBS4's Natalia Zea that the suspect threw a gun out the window on I-95 before crashing into the van.
All southbound lanes are shut down, BSO said. Southbound traffic must exit Hallandale Beach Boulevard, the FHP said. Northbound lanes are not affected.
Alternates include the Turnpike, 441 and U.S.1.
