Bradenton Beach, Florida -- The body of a 6-year-old boy who went missing in the waters off Anna Maria Island has been found.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission found Lamontea Taylor's body Monday morning, two days after he went missing while swimming with his cousins.

Multiple agencies were involved in the search, including the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, FWC, and Longboat Key Police. The search resumed Monday morning, after crews spent the weekend looking for the little boy without any success. The search covered areas around Bradenton Beach to Whitney Beach, both the Gulf and Intracoastal Waterway.

Lamontea was at a family cookout on Saturday when he and his cousins allegedly snuck away -- past no swimming signs -- and into the water on the edge of Coquina Beach. They were then caught in a rip current that pulled them toward Longboat Pass.

Bystanders were able to rescue everyone except Taylor.

"My son came and was like, 'We tried to get him out of the water,'" says Laketa Taylor, Lamontea's mother, who thought he was on a playground. "That's when I noticed he was gone."

Family members called 911 around 6:30 p.m. The search lasted several hours before the U.S. Coast Guard suspended it after dusk.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports more than two dozen of the child's relatives and friends gathered at Coquina Beach on Sunday to wait on news from the rescue crews. The search became a recovery effort that resumed Monday morning.

Officials said the rip currents made it difficult to find the little boy's body.

"If you had a place where there was no tides or no fast-moving water, usually you can recover the body within that area. But because in this area here the tides are so often coming in and out, it really, really opens the area search for you," said Det. Sgt. Lenard Diaz, with the Bradenton Beach Police.

The child attended kindergarten at Samoset Elementary School in Bradenton.
