I'm an official Mermaid...or Merman.
Up until two weeks ago, that sentence was never uttered from my mouth, EVER! But now, I'm proud to say I am an official Weeki Wachee Mermaid, thanks in large part to the Do My Job opportunity I received from one of the most popular parks in the United States.
An hour north of Tampa, the Weeki Wachee Park has been entertaining families with underwater Mermaid shows for nearly 60 years. It took me almost 20 minutes to ruin all of that, after I was asked to do the job of the world renowned Mermaids. I say 20 minutes because that's about how much time I had to figure out how to do everything they did (which usually takes anywhere from 3 to 6 to 12 months).
After meeting with Mermaid Danielle, I was fitted for my tale, given advice from some of the other Mermaids and then placed in the water. I am a certified scuba diver (one thing you have to be), so that was a good start to my training. Once I was in the water, I maneuvered around until I felt comfortable enough to perform. What happened next? Well, you'll have to watch the video.
