(USA TODAY) -- If you're a Republican who likes the idea of Chris Christie running for president, chances are you also watch a late-night comedy TV program.

At least that's one takeaway from a new PublicMind poll on the 2016 presidential race by Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The topline findings of the poll are fairly standard at this early stage of the game: Hillary Rodham Clinton is the clear favorite Democratic candidate, while GOP voters are split between Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, ex-Florida governor Jeb Bush and Christie, New Jersey's governor.

The fun factoid is the connection between presidential preferences and where registered voters get the majority of their news. Clinton, the former secretary of State and ex-New York senator, does well among voters regardless of whether they get their news from TV, newspapers, the Internet, radio or a comedy show.

On the GOP side, 30% of Republicans who watch comedy programs such as Jon Stewart's Daily Show prefer Christie. Talk radio listeners -- who outnumber comedy TV viewers among GOP voters -- prefer Rubio and Bush.

The Internet and local TV are the top sources of news for all the registered voters in the PublicMind poll.
