BRANDON, Florida - A 12-year-old Brandon girl is in hot water with her parents and the Hillsborough School District after she pulled a pepper spray prank on campus just
before school let out on Friday, according to the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office.
The pre-teen was
arrested after witnesses say she shot pepper spray in a school hallway affecting 93
people, including students and teachers. Sources say it was in Building 200 at McClane Middle School in Brandon.
Eyewitnesses tell 10 News it was like a scene out of a movie -- people screaming and running around, some unable to even open their eyes.
rushed to Brandon Regional Hospital. Fortunately, they were all released Friday night, said a sheriff's spokesperson.
The pepper spray
prank landed the 12-year-old girl in handcuffs charged with Disruption of School Function, which is a misdemeanor. She was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center where she was released to a parent.
One 13-year-old fellow student witnessed the whole incident and was sprayed in the eyes.
"Everybody was screaming and running. We saw the mace. It was just chaos," said the teen. Her father declined to release his daughter's name during an interview.
She added, "My eyes were burning. My nose was burning. We were all running. We didn't know what was going to happen."
The teen's mother said, "Well, I was scared and nervous. It was chaos with kids coughing and screaming. It was a scary situation."
not yet known what will happen to the 12-year-old as far as disciplinary action is
concerned with her education. Sources say she could face a transfer or even expulsion. The principal and the school district have not yet made a decision.
And, it's still a
mystery as to where the 12-year-old allegedly got the pepper spray. On Friday night, 10 News went to five
different places last night, including Wal-Mart and Home Depot, and no one sold
