Wesley Chapel, Florida -- The Florida Highway Patrol reported the sad news that the driver of a car that crashed into a dump truck on Interstate 75 near State Road 56 has died.
Troopers say 61-year-old John Porter, of Wesley Chapel, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon. Both of his passengers -- his wife Mary Ann and their 3-year-old granddaughter -- are in serious condition at the same hospital.
Troopers say the Hyundai was heading south on I-75 in the outside center lane, just south of SR 56, when a dump truck that had stopped on the shoulder pulled out into the car's path. The front of the car rear-ended the dump truck, causing it to deflect to the inside paved shoulder where it then crashed into the barrier.
