Bradenton, Florida -- A 23-year-old woman says she used a pocketknife to fight off two men who she says tried to rape her on Wednesday night.
The woman says she was jogging on the gravel track next to Samoset Elementary around 9:30 p.m. when the attack occurred.
"She was able to pull out a pocketknife and defend herself and basically chase them away," Manatee County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Dave Bristow said.
Bristow said the woman was also able to give detectives a pretty good description of the alleged attackers. He says the first suspect is described as a black male, about 6'3" with a thin build. The woman says the man was wearing a red Michael Jordan hoodie and black pants.
The second suspect is described as being a white or Hispanic male with a muscular build. The second suspect was wearing a yellow T-shirt with neon orange shorts. He also had a tattoo of a pinup girl on his arm, according to the woman.
It's believed both men are in their 20's.
Bristow stressed it's not a good idea to go running alone late at night. He also said using a knife for protection could backfire.
"It worked for her. I'm not saying we recommend that because obviously, if someone gets it away it could lead to really bad things."
Detectives are now going through video from surveillance cameras mounted outside Samoset Elementary for clues.
