Brandon, Florida -- The search is on for two women accused of having a 9-year-old steal a purse for them while at a birthday party, and then later using the victim's credit cards last month.
According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office report, 26-year-old Jasmine Johnson and 24-year-old Chantel Jenkins are considered to be "evading capture" at this point, since a warrant has been issued for their arrest and officials have yet to find them.
It all started on Tuesday, June 25 when the women and the nine-year-old attended a birthday at Chuck E. Cheese's in Brandon. Surveillance footage from the venue, known as the place "where a kid can be a kid", shows Johnson and Jenkins eyeing a purse set on a counter, and Johnson telling her nine-year-old nephew to go and get it.
The cameras keep recording as the child, who officials consider a victim in this case, picked up the purse and brought it over to them. Footage then shows the women leaving with the purse in Jenkins' hands.
Later that evening, deputies say the victim's credit cards were fraudulently used at a local convenience store. Officials have not said whether Jenkins or Johnson were the ones to use the cards. They are continuing to investigate the use of the cards.
Detectives now ask for the public's assistance in locating both women.
Anyone with any information on Johnson or Jenkins' whereabouts is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 813-247-8200.
