Riverview, Florida -- A customer found the clerk at a busy 7-Eleven store stabbed several times and dying early Wednesday morning.

The clerk, 54-year-old Kenneth Lee Redding, was a store clerk for the 7-Eleven at Providence Road and Bloomingdale Avenue. Investigators say he worked there for the past year and a half.

Just before Jimmy Walker stepped into the convenience store at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, someone rushed out and ran around the side of the building.

Walker says he went inside and walked through the store.

"The more I got in the store, I'm thinking, 'Oh no.' Something just didn't look right. And I look down the third aisle and he was laying there in a pool of blood," Walker said.

Redding was still alert, but dying.

"Got napkins and things and tried to see where he was wounded, and I just kind of poked whatever I could in to where he was hurt," Walker said. "It was awful. It was awful."

Deputies have released two images of the suspect from surveillance video. They say that video captured every second of the attack on the 54-year-old clerk.

"It's extremely crucial. It actually shows the entire crime occurring," said Col. Donna Lusczynski of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

"The subject was stabbed numerous times. Just a very brutal crime."

Along with that video, a short blood trail gave detectives some leads toward the killer -- a man whose motives they say may have been robbery or something else.

Walker says three or four nights a week, he would stroll into the 7-Eleven strike up a conversation with Redding. He's heartbroken.

"Nicest guy in the world," Walker said.

Detectives describe the suspect as a white man wearing a royal blue hoodie with black sleeves and a black hood, as well as jeans.

Detectives are asking for the public to take a look at the surveillance photos and contact HCSO at 813-247-8200 or Crimestoppers if they have any information regarding this investigation.
