The fast food restaurant that ranked number 1, with the fewest violations of all in Tampa Bay, was Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Out of 100 inspections they averaged only about 1.5 violations per visit.

TAMPA, Florida- We are very excited to unveil our ranking of over 30 of the most popular fast food restaurant chains across Tampa Bay. All week we've been pouring through thousands of inspections to find the best, and worst of fast food restaurants.

Our ranking is based on each chain's average number of state health code violations over the past year for restaurants in west central Florida. Keep in mind, this ranking is an average of all the chain's Bay area locations together, not individual restaurants.

Let's start with some of the best:

Jimmy John's ranked in the top five, along with Quizno's, Crisper's, and Taco Bell. Each of these restaurants had on average three or fewer total violations over the past year across their locations.

The fast food restaurant that ranked number 1, with the fewest violations of all in Tampa Bay, was Five Guys Burgers and Fries. Out of 100 inspections they averaged only about 1.5 violations per visit.
One of the things that may work in this chain's favor is the simplicity of their menu and their relentless dedication to cleanliness and quality, so congratulations to them!

Now to the other end of the spectrum

Ranking at the bottom of our list for restaurants with the most violations over the past year was Hardees with 6.7 violations per visit; Checkers with an average over 6 violations (they had slightly more critical and high priority violations); Salem's Gyros & Subs and then Einstein Brothers Bagels- averaging close to 8 violations per visit (two or more of those critical or high priority violations).

And the fast food restaurant with the most violations on average in all of Tampa Bay, according to state records, was Steak-n-Shake.

They racked up a grand total of 726 violations over 77 visits to their local restaurants. That came out to about 9.43 violations per visit on average, 3 of those- on average- classified as high priority or critical violations.

Steak-n-Shake is open 24-hours-a-day, and constantly serves customers. The hours of operation could be one of the challenges for scoring better on their state inspections.
