LARGO, Florida -- A neighbor witnessed a man being run over three times by another man in a SUV at his Largo apartment complex early Saturday around 1:00 a.m.
The Largo Police Department's report states 66-year-old Richard Edward Blasioli was seen hitting the victim, Daniel Estes, with his tan-colored SUV. He then allegedly drove over him, then back over him, and then over him again at the Laguna Vista Lakefront Rental Apartments. It also states Blasioli is employed at All Childrens Hospital.
Estes suffered from a collapsed lung and several major injuries.
The police report does not include where paramedics transported Estes. It also does not state if Blasioli knew Estes and why they were in that parking lot.
Ricky Zumbo lives upstairs and heard the two men talking below his window. He recognized Estes as his neighbor, who lives two doors away from him.
"All of a sudden I heard 'boom,' I looked out the window," said Zumbo. "I thought did he really run over him? Am I awake? It didn't register right away. The gentleman who was in the vehicle got out, he didn't walk around to see him, he just walked to the back of the vehicle, which I thought was strange, it didn't make sense to me. He got back in the vehicle. My heart started racing, I thought what's going on? He backed up and ran over him again."
Zumbo ran down his stairs and chased after Blasioli's SUV. He saw the tag and then ran over to Estes' side. He was not responsive.
"Then I ran upstairs to grab my phone and I called 911," said Zumbo.
He went back down and Estes started groaning.
"I put a blanket under his head. Right before the driver left, he barely missed Daniel's head, just skimmed it," said Zumbo.
Blasioli has at least four prior DUI arrests. Reports state there are three in Florida and one in Georgia. The most recent arrests were in 2008 and 2006.
