(USA TODAY) - It's been a summer of royal-related wedding rumors in the U.K., including Prince Harry and his cousin Princess Beatrice. Now Pippa Middleton's possible wedding plans are making news.
Sunday People, the weekend celebrity tabloid of the Daily Mirror, reports Sunday that Pippa, celebrated younger sister of Duchess Kate, is secretly engaged to her boyfriend of some months, Nico Jackson, with a wedding planned for spring.
But it won't be announced, the paper reports, until after Friday, Pippa's 30th birthday, in part to keep from stealing the attention from Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and her new baby, Prince George, born July 22.
Will Kate be bridesmaid or matron-of-honor at the supposed nuptials? It would not be a surprise: After all, Pippa put herself into history books, and in the lenses of armies of paparazzi, when she stood out as a shapely bridesmaid at her sister's royal wedding in 2011.
The source for all of this: unnamed "friends," of course. No comment from Pippa or Jackson or their relatives.
That is usually the case with stories about royal wedding bells. Only last week, Brit media were reporting that Prince Harry, 28, is madly in love and ready to propose to his girlfriend, dancer/society belle Cressida Bonas, 24. So far, it hasn't happened.
Ditto for the recent reports that Princess Beatrice would announce her engagement to her longtime boyfriend, American-born Virgin Galactic executive Dave Clark, 28, at her 25th birthday bash in early August. That hasn't happened yet, either.
There were even reports that Beatrice's parents, the long-divorced Prince Andrew Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson Duchess of York, would announce that they will remarry, given they've been living in the same house for years, anyway, and are still very close. Also not happened. (And if it does, it probably won't happen until after Prince Philip, 92, passes from the scene, because he is not a fan of Fergie's.)
So judge the Pippa reports with appropriate skepticism.
We do know this: The couple have been dating for months, having met last year in a London nightclub. Jackson, 35, is a banker/stockbroker from a non-aristocratic, non-wealthy, middle-class family in Kent that runs a ski-and-sportswear shop.
Pippa, formerly an employee of her parents' online party-supplies empire, is now a writer for a British supermarket magazine, a party-planning book author, and a columnist for Vanity Fair who is frequently stalked by the paparazzi.
The couple have been spotted together numerous times, embracing, skiing and clubbing, and especially enjoying the tennis at Wimbledon. Sunday People claims they got engaged in secret shortly before the tournament in July, where they watched Andy Murray win his semifinals match and engaged in some serious snogging.
If the reports are correct, Pippa is busy designing herself a ring and planning a reception at her parents' estate in Bucklebury, with the ceremony at a local church.
