Michalak and her boyfriend, Robert Lemon, were riding a tandem bike when the accident occurred. Lemon died the day of the crash at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.
The driver of the vehicle that hit them on the causeway, Christopher Patrick Weed, was arrested the next day. Weed reportedly told police he blacked out after driving home from work and doesn't remember anything.

Clearwater Police charged Weed with one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.
That second charge is likely to be upgraded because of Michalak's death.
