OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (CNN) -- What a customer left behind for a waiter has ignited a social media firestorm.
The waiter found a note written on a credit card receipt to explain he wasn't getting a tip because he is gay.
The message for the 20-year-old Carrabba's worker began with a compliment.
"Thank you for your service, it was excellent," the note on the receipt says.
But then the note took a turn that has many angry.
"We cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to God," the note declares.
And it got even more personal.
"We hope you will see the tip your f-- choices made you lose out on and plan accordingly. It is never too late for God's love. But none shall be spared for f-s. May God have mercy on you."
Since this story surfaced, others have gone to the restaurant to give the worker extra tips.
Carrabba's has issued the following statement: "We do not tolerate discrimination from either employees or our guests. We embrace diversity and believe in treating everyone with respect."
