Brooksville, Florida -- The Hernando County Sheriff's Office is investigating two of its own.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis says two deputies are accused of stealing money. He held a news conference on Friday morning to announce the results of two separate investigations.
Both men -- a deputy and a sergeant -- have been charged, resigned and turned themselves in.
Here's what the Sheriff says their investigations found:
Deputy Mike Glatfelter is charged with grand theft and scheming to defraud. As treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Police in this area for several years, he's accused of taking about $14,000 from the group for personal use... including swiping funds meant for the family of Scott Bierwiler, who was killed in the line of duty.
In a separate case, Sgt. Joseph Reid is accused of using money intended for vice operations for personal use. He too, is charged with grand theft and scheming to defraud.
Sheriff Nienhuis says the actions of these two men leave him deeply disappointed.
Cases like these tarnish the badge, and the Sheriff wants the public to know that if people in his department are committing crimes, they will be brought to justice.
