TAMPA, Florida (AP) - A Hillsborough County mail carrier is accused of trying to sell nearly $20,000 of fraudulent tax refund checks.

The Tampa Bay Times reports 40-year-old Orville Dwight Hylton faces a charge of theft of government property after trying to sell the checks at a discount price.

A federal complaint says the checks came from the same ZIP code where Hylton delivers mail.

Hylton made his first appearance in federal court on Tuesday, and was released on $20,000 bond.

No further details were immediately available.
