Tampa, Florida -- A Tampa police officer was injured after he was struck by a suspect's vehicle during a traffic stop.
The incident happened in the area of Hillsborough Avenue and 30th Street. Investigators say a second officer opened fire on the car after it struck Captain Steve Hartnett and tried fleeing the scene.
Police say the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Jamie Parchmon, was taken into custody a short distance away and transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Captain Hartnett was also hospitalized with injuries to his lower back and left knee. Police say the injuries are non-life threatening.
Police had pulled over Parchmon after getting an anonymous tip that the suspect had stolen firearms and stolen goods.
The officer who reportedly shot Parchmon has not been identified at this time, but is a five-year veteran of Tampa Police.
