Tampa, Florida - Van Buren Middle School's principal resigned one day after being arrested for buying drugs on school property.

Authorities say they arrested 40-year-old Anthony Giancola Thursday afternoon for buying $20 of crack cocaine from an undercover officer.

The walk to school on Friday morning seemed a little longer for many Van Buren students, as they tried to make sense of their principal's arrest.

Janay Lewis, 8th grader:
"If we had a problem we could go to him and everything. You would never expect him to be the one to go down for something like this."

Other students are disappointed and angry at their principal.

Kyle Passmore, 6th grader:
"I think he should be ashamed of himself. Other kids looked up to him as a role model, so they can get better grades and stuff."

In a schoolwide announcement Friday morning, students were asked to stay focused on their school work.

Giancola is out of jail on bail. Tampa police are continuing their investigation.
