Blanket-wrapped man hit by CSX train in Polk

POLK COUNTY, Fla. -- An object that was placed on a rail line in Davenport was struck by a CSX train overnight Monday was an adult male wrapped in a blanket, deputies reported.

Polk County Sheriff's Office is working to identify the man whose body was found underneath the train with trauma to his face and body.

According to the report, the engineer of a CSX freight train en route to Taft, Fla saw an object across two rails around 12:30 a.m. Despite the engineer sounding the horn, the man did not move. The train was not able to brake in time before running over the man.

It is unknown whether the victim died as a result of the train or prior to the crash. PSCO has not given an exact cause of death pending a toxicology report.
