Citrus County Sheriff's Office detectives have identified the woman found Monday morning in a burning vehicle in Crystal River.
Based on dental records from the medical examiner's report, the body is Linda Steve, 58, of Crystal River, the owner of the vehicle. Jewelry on the body also helped detectives to make a positive identification.
Detectives are unsure why she was in the area of Sunshine Path and West Sunripe Loop. Investigators believe
Steve was trying to turn around in a driveway located on a dirt road. When she put the car in reverse to back up, the car's undercarriage got hung up on several large palmetto roots which prevented the car from moving forward.
The vehicle and an approximate area of 30 feet around it burned, deputies said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the state fire marshal's office. The cause and manner of death are still being determined by the medical examiner's office.
At this point, there is nothing that leads investigators to believe foul play is suspected, deputies said.
