The driver made a U-turn to avoid the deputy through the grassy median and headed southeast on Roosevelt. The deputy started to pursue the vehicle but then stopped.
A short time later, the suspect's vehicle flipped on I-275 and became engulfed in flames.
Police say the driver fled on foot and is still on the loose. Officers have set up a perimeter in the area, including a K-9 and helicopter unit in search of the man.
The sheriff's office says they do know the man's identity but they not released his name at this time.
