LAND O'LAKES, Fla. (AP) - Two ultra-light planes crashed in neighboring counties in Florida, killing both pilots.
No other injuries were reported from both crashes Sunday morning.
The first happened in Land O'Lakes in Pasco County. A sheriff's office statement identifies the victim as 53-year-old William George Athey of Odessa. His body was removed from the plane shortly after the crash. A preliminary investigation shows the crash appears to be accidental. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
In nearby Hernando County, witnesses say another ultra-light plane took off from the north end of the local airport and was about 200 feet in the air when it appeared to be struggling. The aircraft then stalled and spiraled to the ground, bursting into flames. The pilot, 50-year-old Christopher Washington of Spring Hill, died in the crash.
