TAMPA, Florida - Detectives with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office are working to figure out a motive behind a shooting that sent a Valrico woman to the hospital.
According to deputies, 42-year-old Carmen Dean was shot multiple times outside her home along the 4800 block of Copper Canyon Boulevard. Her husband, Frederick Dean, is being questioned and is cooperating. Investigators don't believe the shooting is random.
Detectives said it started just before 2 a.m. Friday when they got calls about shots fired. Shorty after deputies arrived, they said Brandon Regional Hospital contacted them about a woman who drove herself there with multiple gunshot wounds. Carmen was later taken to Tampa General Hospital where she remains in serious, but stable condition.
Investigators said she lives with her husband and a 16-year-old child, who was there at the time of the shooting.
Although he is not being considered a suspect, 10 News has learned Frederick Dean has an extensive criminal history, including 19 arrests in Hillsborough County and prison time. His charges over the years include domestic battery, grand theft, and drugs.
