Weeki Wachee, Florida - According to a recent Career Builder survey, 64 percent of workers who were laid off in the last 12 months have applied for positions that were below the job level they held previously.
As a result of the large job pool, new hire compensation is much lower than in previous months, according to The Society for Human Resource Management.

David Larson of Weeki Wachee was laid off more than a year ago and hasn't been able to find work. He has experience in management, human resources, sales and consulting, and used to make $60,000 a year.
Now, he's applying for jobs that barely pay minimum wage.
"With my skill set, I'm looking at going to gas stations to work as an attendant there... restaurants... jobs I normally would have applied for as a teenager," he said.
Larson says he doesn't even look at pay when applying for jobs anymore.
"Whatever they're going to pay me is more than I'm making now," he said.
