St. Pete Fire throws block party

St. Pete Fire Rescue plans block party to promote fire safety with fun events this Saturday.

St. Petersburg, Fl – St. Petersburg firefighters will be firing up the grill on Saturday, October 15th. They’re throwing a block party for residents at Fossil Park, 6635 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. N.

“It’s our 27th annual Fire Prevention Block Party,” says St. Pete Fire’s Lisa Brekke. “There’s going to be lots of fun stuff for families. It’s a free community event.”

The block party runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and includes a fire truck display, police K9 demonstrations, Bayflight landing, bounce houses, face painting, and free food and drinks.

Along with all the fun, the fire department wants to spread a simple fire prevention message— “Don’t Wait, Check the Date!” Deputy Fire Marshal Steve Lawrence encourages families to replace smoke alarms every 10 years. The manufacture date is on the back of the alarms.

For families that don’t have any smoke alarms, St. Pete Fire offers an installation service. If you need a smoke alarm, call 727-893-SAFE (7233). “We’ll get you on a list and a fire crew will come out an install it free of charge,” explains Lawrence.

According to the latest National Fire Prevention Association research, working smoke alarms cut the chance of dying in a fire in half.
