18-year-old arrested for DUI after crashing into sheriff's animal services van

SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested an 18-year-old for driving under the influence after he crashed into an animal services van Tuesday night.

According to police, the rollover crash happened at mile marker 186 in northbound lanes of I-75 in North Port after 10 p.m.

The driver of the car that crashed into the animal services van, now identified as 18-year-old Roberto Garcia, ran from the scene of the crash after it happened.

The North Port Police Department K-9 and the Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit assisted in finding Garcia where he ran into a wooded area. 

He has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence and for leaving the scene of the crash.
