2 charged with slew of burglaries

Valrico, Florida -- Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies have arrested two suspects in a Valrico burglary last month where one of two burglars used a stolen gun to shoot at the homeowner who came home and surprised the thieves.

Matthew Donovan, 18, and Steven Alcantara, 21, face at least 20 counts related to this burglary as well as others in the area, including several counts of Grand Theft of a Firearm, Burglary and Criminal Mischief and Aggravated Assault with intent to Commit a Felony.

Police say Donovan is accused of shooting at the victim in the Valrico burglary.

After their arrests, police recovered many of the valuables the sheriff's office says they stole including heirlooms of a former deputy who has passed away. The thieves reportedly stole his badges and guns from the family that inherited them.
