Ruskin, Florida -- A 25-year-old man is in jail suspected in the death of his girlfriend who was reported missing on Thursday by a relative.
Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies have charged Alejandro Flores-Sanchez with the second-degree murder of 35-year-old Angela Tavarez-Caballero.
Tavarez-Caballero was reported missing Thursday and was last seen at her home on 5th Avenue SE around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Investigators contacted Flores-Sanchez, who admitted to getting in a physical altercation with Tavarez-Caballero.
According to investigators, Flores-Sanchez admitted to killing his girlfriend and then painstakingly tried to conceal the body by first removing the floor of the back porch.
"The sub-floor was another layer of plywood. He cut a 2-by-4 piece of wood off of that sub-floor and dug a hole about four feet deep and placed her body in that hole," said Col. Donna Lusczynski. "He then filed it back in with dirt, put the smaller piece of plywood of the sub-floor back in then put the regular plywood floor down and nailed it shut again and then put the washer over the body."
Flores-Sanchez was arrested and taken to the Orient Road Jail. He was denied bail.
The medical examiner's office is working to determine the cause of death.
