Dachshund found tied to cinderblock in canal

Winter Haven, Florida -- Winter Haven Police need the public's help locating the person responsible for tying a dog to a cinderblock and throwing it into a Winter Haven canal.

Police say around 10:45 a.m., Donald Hill and Charles Weeks, both of Lakeland, were fishing in the canal between lakes May and Shipp when they saw the body of a Dachshund just under the surface of the water. A further look revealed that the dog had a nylon rope tied around its neck and a half cinderblock resting on the bottom of the canal. The water level in the canal was just low enough that the block could be seen from the side of the canal.

The dog, which had not been neutered and did not have a microchip, is all black except for a light brown muzzle and light brown paws.

Anyone with information regarding the dog or who is responsible for this heinous act is asked to contact the Winter Haven Police Detective Matthew Irvin or Detective Michael Roe at 863-401-2256.
