Sarasota, Florida -- A high speed chase Tuesday between deputies and a man on a stolen motorcycle that spanned two counties ended safely with his arrest.
Sarasota Sheriff's deputies say Brian Tharp was spotted on 15th Street East on the motorcycle and tried to pull him over. Instead, he sped off.
During the chase, deputies on the ground and in the air clocked Tharp at speeds over 145 mph. At one point, he either dropped or tossed a backpack filled with methamphetamine onto I-75.
Near Sarasota Memorial Hospital on US 41, he got caught up in traffic and that's when deputies closed in on him. Refusing to give himself up, Tharp reportedly accelerated at one of the deputies and he was tasered.
Tharp, 39, was arrested and charged with grand theft auto, trafficking in methamphetamine and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, among other charges. This is Tharp's 23rd arrest in Sarasota County.
