Lakeland boy found; father remains at large

Lakeland, Florida -- A 7-year-old Lakeland boy was located Friday afternoon, but his father is still being sought and is wanted on charges that include attempted murder and child abuse.

The child, Innocent Destino III, was bein reunited with his mother, according to the Polk County Sherif's Office. He had been reported missing after he was last seen in the 2500 block of Old Tampa Highway in Lakeland around 5:30 p.m. on June 19.

Innocent Destino Jr., 28, is at large and described as 6'1" and 230 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Destino Jr. has an open Polk County warrant in connection with an ongoing shooting investigation. Also on June 19, Destino Jr. had an argument with Mitchell Scott. The argument became violent after Destino Jr. fired a handgun at Scott, striking him twice in the lower right leg and foot. Destino then fled the area.

Witness information indicates when Destino fled the scene his son was with him at the time.

Destino Jr. has active warrants for his arrest on charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and child abuse, the sheriff's office said.

Destino Jr. is considered armed and dangerous and people are advised not to approach.
