Mother charged with first degree murder in baby's death

Brooksville, Florida -- A 26-year-old Brooksville mother has been charged with murder in her baby's death due to severe head injuries Sunday.

Hernando Sheriff's deputies say April Weber called 911 around 1:49 pm. saying she had "accidentally dropped" her baby while she was bouncing the infant on her leg.

When fire rescue crews arrived, they immediately determined the baby's injuries were severe and airlifted the six-week-old to St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Pete. There, hospital staff tried to revivie Aubrey three times. The baby girl died that night.

Doctors told detectives Aubrey suffered bi-lateral skull fractures on the left and right sides of her head, and bleeding within her skull.

After her arrest, April told detectives she lifted Aubrey by the legs above her head and threw Aubrey onto the bed who then bounced off the bed and onto the floor. April reportedly said she then picked her daughter up again, raised her above her head and threw her. This time, the baby hit the dresser.

April Weber has been charged with first degree murder and aggravated child abuse. She is currently being held without bond.
