Property clerk arrested for stealing inmates' prescription pills

Clearwater, Florida --A property clerk at the Pinellas County Jail has been arrested for stealing over 170 prescription pills from at least five inmates over a period of several months.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says the pills, lawfully prescribed to each of the five inmates, were being kept in the inmate property vault of the jail until the inmates would be released and their property returned to them.

An investigation was launched on Oct. 19 after an inmate who bonded out of jail discovered he was missing some Oxycodone pills out of his prescription bottle. After looking at surveillance video from Oct. 18, investigators saw Alexander Lansky take a bag from the property area, disappear from camera view, and then return into view and put the bag back in storage.

Then, investigators discovered another inmate, who was released from the jail back in June, had reported all 87 of his prescribed Oxycodone pills were missing.

Detectives interviewed Lansky on Oct. 22, who admitted to taking the pills from both inmates while they were in storage and also admitted to taking prescription pills, which included Vicodin, Perocet and Morphine, from the stored property of three additional inmates. He said the pills were for him and thathe had an addiction problem.

Lansky, 26, was arrested for five-counts grand theftand five counts of possession of prescription pills. He hasresigned from his position as property clerk.
