Security guard charged with attempted murder

Brooksville, Florida -- A Spring Hill security guard at an assisted living facility has been charged with trying to murder two elderly residents.

After midnight on March 27, Brian Murphy entered Atria Evergreen Woods where he also works as a weekend security guard. When he got inside Murphy entered the rooms of two men in their 80s, Miriam Lepp and Joseph Giambrone, and attacked them with a blunt object.

A nurse alerted security and the guard on duty, Jonathan Sousa, responded to the attacks. Sousa engaged Murphy and his immediate action prevent further injury to residents and staff.

Hernando County Deputies promptly responded to the scene and found Murphy beating up Sousa. The deputies took hold of Murphy and took him into custody.

Lepp and Giambrone were transported by Hernando County Fire Rescue to a bay area trauma center with life threatening injuries.

Murphy has been charged with two counts of attempted murder as well as aggravated assault and is being held on no bond.
