Tampa teen arrested for assaulting woman

TAMPA - A Tampa teenager has been arrested after police say he forced a woman into a parking lot and sexually battered her on the hood of a car.

Tampa police say Juan Vasquez-Vasquez, who just turned 18, approached the woman near the intersection of Howard and Swann avenues at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. He reportedly began walking beside her, then grabbed her near a closed Panera Bread restaurant and forced her into the restaurant's rear parking lot, where he sexually attacked her.

A group of people nearby allegedly saw what was happening, prompting Vasquez to run. A police officer spotted Vasquez running toward a dead-end on Moody Avenue and yelled for him to stop, according to the arrest report. Vasquez kept running and tried to hop a fence before the officer caught up and arrested him. A search turned up two fake IDs, police said.

Vasquez was booked in jail on charges of sexual battery, kidnapping, resisting an officer and possession of fake IDs.

Police say he did not know his victim.
